A Call For Courage

When asked to think of who my heroes or heroines are in order to reveal what my values are, Martin Luther King, Jr. is always at the top of the list. And, what he represents in my heart is the courage to be authentic and stand up for what you believe in with dignity and love.

In Dr. Deb Kern’s Nia class this morning (www.drdebkern.com), we danced the courage to be ourselves, the importance of claiming our power, and the joys of freedom (among other intentions in this transformational class). After integrating all of these powerful intentions in my body, it struck me that Dr. King’s birthday and day of honoring him fall at just the right time for all of us.

With a new year fully in swing, many of us feel the call to draw upon our courage to do what it takes to claim our brilliance, be who we know deep down we’re really meant to be, and leap toward the life we desire. And, courage is exactly what this kind of commitment takes. We have to be willing to feel uncomfortable in our own skin, let go of habits that no longer serve us, and in some cases, risk ridicule for stepping toward our dream.

The fears reach out to grab you back and may pull you back into your shell for awhile. But, the courage naturally arises and dissipates the power of the fear when you focus on the freedom, joy, and peace that living authentically in your dream brings.

What dream is calling you forth and asking you to reach inside and awaken your courage? May these words inspire you to courageously leap into that class, that program, that new venture, that new relationship, or that new location that’s been calling you for awhile.

When you come to the edge of all that you know, you must BELIEVE in one of two things: There will be earth upon which to stand, or you will be given wings. (Author Unknown).
