This month’s newsletter is short and sweet; yet, it packs a powerful punch if you give yourself a moment to absorb it.
So take a deep breath, ignore the long holiday to-do lists for a few minutes, and read on to be inspired to make one small change.
Quote of the Month
You get your power from the first step. It's exhilarating....After that, everything falls into place. Your power comes from that first step. What a lot of people can't accept is that there is no control. You can't see the entire journey.

The Butterfly Effect
In their book, The One Minute Millionaire, authors Mark Victor Hansen and Robert Allen explain their reference to "one minute" by reminding readers of the power of making very small, even tiny, changes. Specifically, they share the profound learning that came from a mistake in a weather research project.
Edward Lorenz was a research meteorologist at MIT working with a computer program he designed to model or estimate the weather. One day Lorenz decided to take a short cut and reuse some information from the previous printout. When he was done, Lorenz noted that the outcome was dramatically different from the original output. It turns out that the difference was due to a few decimal places in one number he entered!
In the original programming he had used six decimal places: .506127. In the second run he had rounded off the numbers to .506. He assumed that the difference—one part in a thousand—would have no real impact. He was wrong. This slight change had made a HUGE difference. This tiny change in input had quickly created an overwhelmingly different output! [p. ix, emphasis added]
While this phenomenon has a more formal name, most people know of it as "the Butterfly Effect." Hansen and Allen go on to offer excellent small, one-minute steps to take to generate wealth; however, I would like you to consider how making a small change in any area of your life or work can generate a beautiful transformation or Butterfly Effect.
Some Questions
One way to begin to determine which area of your life or work you might choose to make a tiny change in is to spend time at the end of the month looking back at 2006 and forward into 2007.
I have a few friends who swear by the power of this activity, and I was blessed to receive an email with a list of excellent questions from a mentor and friend, Robin Blanc Mascari. With Robin’s permission, I’ve included a selection of them below. If you would like the complete list, just email me at damorde@inspiredleap.com and simply say you’d like the list of questions.
Completing and Remembering 2006
• What was your biggest triumph in 2006?
• What was the greatest lesson you learned?
• What is your biggest piece of unfinished business?
• Who were the three people that had the greatest impact on your life?
• What else do you need to do or say to be complete with 2006?
Creating 2007
• What would you like your biggest triumph to be in 2007?
• What are you looking forward to learning?
• What about your work are you most committed to changing and improving?
• What brings you the most joy and how are you going to do or have more of that?
• What one word would you like to have as your theme in 2007?
Answering these few questions can lead you to a triumphant 2007. Try to find one hour to ponder and write down your answers in the next two weeks. I'm committed to doing this and hope you will join me. Imagine the impact this one hour will have on directing you to your own personal Butterfly Effect.
One Small Change
What will be your one small change to end 2006 and start 2007? One of the greatest problems with goal-setting or new year’s resolutions is that we take on too much too soon. Consider starting out very, very small and building upon each step to achieve your greatest desire in 2007.
Imagine starting a new exercise program by simply getting up 10 minutes earlier than normal to do a few basic stretches. That’s it! In a stretching DVD that I use, the instructor reminds me that "these small movements are going to bring us big results." I think of the Butterfly Effect everytime she says that, and I stick with it.
Is there something that you desired, but gave up on achieving or obtaining? Consider trying again and approaching the journey to achieve your goal with much smaller, incremental steps.
Trust your intuition and start today with one minute, five minutes, or ten minutes of affirmations, meditation, or action that will get those butterfly wings moving.
Final Thoughts On One Small Change
During this hectic and emotional time of year, please take time to breathe, contemplate, and imagine the butterfly you can create with only a few tiny steps. The bigger, bolder steps will take care of themselves.
May you find the courage and inner wisdom to pick one small change to move you toward your dream Self, career, relationship, vacation, business, or lifestyle. May you also experience a rewarding and joyous holiday season.
